| For more than 20 years, the Rensselaerville Institute has made
it possible for more than 300 communities to chart their own course,
fix their own problems and develop their own assets. Our cost-effective
approach goes beyond investing in community improvement to investing
in community capacity and leadership. The Appalachian Community
Learning Project (ACLP), Distressed Area Turnaround and Small Town
Environmental Program (STEP) all have one thing in common- Sparkplugs! |
| |
| “Sparkplugs” are community members with a passion
to make things better. They are moms, dads, students, retirees,
farmers, teachers, store clerks, and entrepreneurs. Despite their
differences, they have one thing in common – they would rather
do something about a problem than complain about it. Sparkplugs
exist in all communities. With the right set of circumstances and
support, they step up to leadership roles and make a difference
for their communities. The Community Sparkplug programs are just
that set of circumstances and support! |

their experience: |

“The ACLP is absolutely
a wonderful experience, and if you’re thinking about it, drop
what your doing and go for it. The neat thing about what the Rensselaerville
Institute does is they bring us into a room and help us create something
that is far better than what we thought of. Doing something with
Rensselaerville just opens up the world.” |
